the day NEO TWEWY was announced, i was living in a backpackers with some uni mates, whom i'd run away to work in an apple orchard with. Square Enix had a mysterious site with a mysterious countdown on it teasing ... something. having been a fan of the series for 8 years at this point, i had lived through numerous 'mysterious countdowns' that amounted to nothing of excitement. i was not getting my hopes up. i explicitly told my mate, "it's not going to be a sequel. it's never a sequel."
folks. it was a sequel.
the announcement happened at 4am my time; i had to muffle my screams of excitement to avoid waking my friends, who were sleeping in the same room, and at breakfast the next morning i turned to my mate like "you'll NEVER GUESS what the announcement was!" to which he was like "it was a sequel, wasn't it."
taking place 3 years after the events of TWEWY, NEO TWEWY follows Rindo and Fret after they are unwittingly pulled into the newest Reapers Game. NEO TWEWY puts a twist on the formula established in TWEWY, as you're not just fighting against the Reapers for survival, but you're also directly fighting the other players.
NEO TWEWY finally perfects the transition to the Nintendo Switch. the comba has been updated, and perfectly balances real-time button-based combat that's simply fun to play, while still retaining the original 'feel' of OG TWEWY's combat.
the soundtrack to this game goes hard as hell -- i still listen to a lot of the songs on the regular, Kill the Itch being my personal favourite.
