CD collecting is one of my favourite hobbies! i talk about listening to CDs the same way my dad talks about listening to vinyl ... i love the ritual of selecting a CD, deciding precisely what Mood i want for the next ~45 minutes of my life, and listening to an album the whole way through the way the artist intended.

albums are an underrated art form imo ... the story that the artist has chosen to tell through the order of the songs ... the Mood and vibe and energy that is created through that order ... it's an experience that you really can't get any other way, and i love getting to hear an artist's collection of work as they intended it.

because i have such a strong habit of listening to one CD religiously for weeks or months at a time -- often while i'm getting ready in the morning -- i can track my adolescence based on the albums that i was listening to at the time. the autumn i turned 16 was Fall Out Boy's Save Rock and Roll, followed by My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade. the winter of 2015 sounds like Death Cab for Cutie's Transatlantacism. being eight years old, tucked up in bed while my parents shared drinks in the room next door is Snow Patrol's Eyes Open.

though many of my CDs are purchased from the local electronics store, i also love buying them second-hand! op shops are my favourite way to discover new music -- you pick up an album from a band you haven't heard of for, like, $2, and it might just become your new favourite album! i've discovered a couple of fantastic albums just by taking a chance on a CD i found at the local thrift :3
